"Alfred! Why are you bringing me here?!" you whined. The young blonde was dragging you behind him to the building his friend's band was playing in. "Because! You need to get out of that stuffy apartment and start getting out more! Besides, don't you want to be a journalist or something someday?! AND ITS YOUR FRIGGIN BIRTHDAY!" he said with a smile and a wink. You frowned and sighed. He had a point. And to tell the truth you didn't really care about your birthday honestly. It was just another day to you. You had to get used to these types of crowds. Alfred pushed his way to the front of the line. "Hey!" someone yelled. "Sorry!" you yelled over your shoulder. It was very loud. This band must be good, you thought.
Alfred flashed two tickets in front of the man guarding the door. "Go on in." he said. You frowned. You didn't like how you were cutting in front of everybody. "Thank you good sir!" Alfred said as he dragged you in. You sighed. This guy just oozed energy. You wondered how you and Alfred were friends sometimes. Alfred dragged you up to the front of the seats. "Wait, you got-?" "I'm good friends with the lead singer. He owes me one!" he said as he sat down. You shrugged and sat down next to him. You were early so you looked around. "Nuns with Guns." you read aloud. You frowned. "Is that the name of the band?" you asked. Alfred nodded. "Isn't it funny?" he said with a laugh. You grinned. You had to admit that it was kind of funny.
People started to pile in. You and Alfred stood up and got close to the stage. You were right in front of where the lead singer was going to be. You were starting to feel smushed when all of the people crowded around the stage. The band walked out onto the stage and the crowd went wild. "WE LOVE YOU ARTHUR!" a group of girls yelled. You looked up at the lead singer and your mind went blank. He had bright blonde hair and you could tell his eyes were green from where you were. He had on a shirt with the United Kingdom's flag print on it and it had a black splattered look all over it. You secretly loved shirts like that. He had the classic rock star look with the black rings and the cross necklace around his neck. He also had a lip ring.
You shrugged. Maybe you were going to like this concert after all. The lead singer, you assumed it was Arthur, readjusted his guitar and tapped his foot. Music started blaring out of the speakers. Your jaw dropped. It was amazing. Then Arthur opened his mouth. Your mind went blank again. This man had the voice of an angel. Alfred saw your awestruck expression. He busted out laughing. "Good aren't they?" he yelled over the music. You looked at him and smiled and started jumping around like he was.
They played a few songs with fast tempos and then they went quiet. Arthur wrapped his hand around the microphone and got really close to it. "All right you blokes, we're going to give you something nice and easy now." he said. Your stomach flip flopped. He was British. No wonder girls loved him. You could have melted then and there. Alfred chuckled. You frowned at him. "What?" "Arthur cast his spell on you didn't he?" he laughed. You lightly punched his arm and looked away.
"Alright, now this is our new song 'Broken Wings'." he said. He stepped back and grabbed an acoustic guitar from a stage hand. He threw the strap on and he readjusted it. He plucked at it. Then he started playing. A soft melody was coming out of the speakers now. "Why can't you let me go," he started out. Your whole body relaxed. His voice was soothing instead of powerful now. The song was a ballad and your heart was soaring along with it. "Oh, let these broken wings heal." You closed his eyes and let his voice wash over you. The lyrics were beautiful. You wiped tears away when the song was done.
"How'd you like that?" Arthur asked with a smile after the last note faded away. The crowd exploded. Girls were screaming and men were pumping their fists. You didn't do anything. You just smiled. Arthur smiled and switched guitars again. He struck a cord and they went back to the rock tempo. You loved it, but you wanted to hear another ballad. "Last song." Alfred said in your ear as the last note of another song faded. Arthur grabbed the microphone again. "Alright, now I need a lovely lady from the audience." Girls were jumping and screaming. You looked at them like they were nuts. "ARTHUR!" Alfred yelled as he was pointing at you. Arthur looked at you and your body froze.
He walked up to the edge of the stage and held out his hand. Alfred shoved you forward and you took it. Arthur pulled you up on stage. Claps and the disappointed voices of girls filled the room. You tucked your hair behind your ear and looked away in embarrassment. You couldn't look him in the eye for some reason. "What's your name?" he asked. His accent made your stomach flip around again. "_______." "ITS HER BIRTHDAY ART!" Alfred yelled. You scowled at your friend. He started laughing. "Is it your birthday?" Arthur asked in surprise. You gulped and nodded. He smiled and led you over to a stool and you sat on it. He set his guitar down. The rest of the band introduced themselves to you as he walked back up to the microphone. He pulled it off the stand and he said, "Alright, this is ______ and it's her birthday." Cheers and whoops sounded all around the crowd.
"Well _______, I hope you enjoy this present from Nuns with Guns." he said with a wink to you. You gulped and hoped your face wasn't too red. The band started to play. You almost gasped. It was by one of your favorite classic rock bands, Aerosmith. "I'm alone. Yeah, I don't know if I can face the night. I'm in tears and the cryin' that I do is for you. I want your love - That breaks the walls between us. Don't make it tough - I'll put away my pride. Enough's enough I've suffered and I've seen the light." You tried not to laugh as he got down on his knees in front of you. "Baby! You're my angel. Come and save me tonight. You're my angel. Come and make it all right." He took your hand and winked at you.
Your heart was pounding during the whole song. You knew your face was beet red too. You sang along with him too. Arthur threw his head back and he put his heart in soul into the last line. "Come and save me tonight!" The band overdid the ending and you couldn't stop smiling. Arthur took your hand and helped you off the stool and he hugged you. You hugged him back and breathed in his scent before he let go. "______ everybody!" he said as he held your hand up. The crowd cheered and Arthur and Alfred helped you off the stage. "Thank you for coming! Have a good night!" Arthur said into the microphone as he made the rock on sign with his other hand. The crowd roared and cheered as they left the stage.
Your heart was still pounding. "How was that?!" Alfred asked with a laugh. You smacked him in the arm. "You know I hate being in front of crowds!" He laughed and took your hand and led you out. You both finally got out and you breathed in the fresh air. It was starting to get stuffy in there. "Come on! Arthur invited us to hang out with him after the show!" Alfred said as he walked toward where his car was parked. "Where?" you asked as you walked over to the passenger side. Alfred grinned and looked at you over the top of his car. "Their hotel of course! The other guys in the band are having their friends and family come over so it won't be like a drunk fest or anything." he said with a laugh.
You laughed and got in.
You got out of the car and looked up at the nice hotel. "Holy crap." you said. You've never set foot in a hotel like this. "Alfred," you said. Alfred stopped and looked at you. "Yeah?" "Why are you doing this? This is too good of a birthday present." you said. He laughed and said, "Remember when you tutored me during college? This is something I'm doing to pay you back. I would have been screwed without you!" he said with a laugh. You shrugged. He did suck at math and science.
He led you over to the elevator and he pressed the up button. You stood in an awkward silence with him as it went up. "Alfred, do you think Arthur will like me?" you said quietly. He looked at you and smiled. "He will! Just warning you though, he might seem cranky towards you at first but that's just how he is." he said with a laugh. You tucked your hair behind your ear again and looked down at your feet. Why did you care if Arthur liked you or not? You got off on the top floor. Alfred led you to a room and knocked on it. "Password?" a British voice said playfully on the other side. "You didn't tell me about any password you jerk!" Alfred laughed. "I'm just joking you bloody wanker!" Arthur opened the door and frowned at him.
Alfred laughed and went in. "_______, glad you came." he said as you walked by. You smiled and looked away. Why couldn't you look him in the eye? Arthur shut the door behind you and followed you. "Do you want something to drink?" he asked as you walked into the suite. You still weren't over how elegant and big the room was. "Oh, yes please." Alfred was already at home with the other band members and their friends. You gulped and followed Arthur over to the kitchen. "What would you like? Scotch? Wine?" he asked as he pulled out glasses. You shook your head. "Sorry, I don't drink much." you said. You mentally slapped yourself. He didn't react like you thought he would though. "Soda it is then!" He went over to the fridge and got soda out. He poured some into the glasses and he handed one to you.
You both leaned against the counter and sipped soda. "So, did you like the show?" he asked after a few awkward minutes. You looked up at him and smiled. "Yes! I liked the slow song you did the best!" You looked away in embarrassment. You were sounding like an overexcited fan now. He laughed. "Really? People usually don't like ballads we do." You looked at him in surprise. "They're idiots then! I thought it was beautiful!" You looked away and took a drink of soda. You wanted to disappear. You hated talking to boys you didn't know; you thought you always sounded stupid. Arthur asked, "You really think so?" You looked at him and nodded. He smiled and looked toward Alfred. He pointed to him and said, "You know he bloody set you and me up right?"
You looked at him in shock. "What?" Arthur laughed. "He always does this. He thinks I'll be nicer if I had a girl." he said, chuckling. You laughed quietly and looked away. Alfred always said that you would be more fun if you had a guy. "Well, I have to say; I think he was spot on with this one." You looked at him in shock. "What?" He ran his fingers through his hair. "You were singing along with the song I sang to you. All of the other girls he tried to set me up with didn't give a damn about music." he said with a grin. You felt your face heat up and you looked away. "_______, what would you say to dinner tomorrow?" he asked.
You looked at him in shock and thought about it. Why not, your mind screamed. You smiled. "Only if you kiss me." you said. Your heart stopped. I did not just say that, you cried in your mind. You wanted to sink into the floor now. Arthur looked at you in surprise and then he grinned. He held your chin gently in his hand and said, "It's a deal." He leaned forward and kissed you.
You thought that that was the best slip up you made in your life.
